Expensive, low priority. Would look harder for a solicitor next time
Taylor Rose helped my wife and I with buying and selling our house. They came recommended by our estate agents and we went with it rather than do the search for a solicitor ourselves.
They got the job done and by and large often did the work when asked within a good time frame. They were genuinely better than the solicitors of the vendors selling their house to us who were horrifically slow throughout the process.
However, throughout the whole process we had felt like we were a low priority, lost in the middle of their to do pile. This was emphasized by a few factors.
1. A few weeks into engaging them as our solicitor, we called them and the manager assigned to us on their portal had absolutely no idea who we were, sounded surprised that we called and was asking for her.
2. Nothing got done unless we called. We would go for weeks not hearing anything from them. Eventually, we would call and miraculously we would get some e-mails and progress was made. I personally really despise having to call your office to have to get anything happening.
3. The manager responsible rarely ever took our calls. Maybe once or twice we got put through.
4. The timescale between exchange and Completion resulted in an extra charge for 'priority' privileges. Who knew, the whole time we genuinely were only quoted for the slow lane. You have to pay a premium for priority. A priority for this firm as quoted on their invoice is acting within 10 days. 10 DAYS! Providing the service you have engaged them to do within 2 working weeks for this firm is a problem to charge more for. If only this was mentioned at the beginning.
If we were to start the process again, would we go with Taylor Rose. Absolutely not. We would search harder. There is no doubt in our mind that there are enough solicitors out there to find one that would provide a better service at a lower price.
