Terrible service level - complaint being escalated to Ombudsman

We dealt with Simpsons Solicitors (part of the Right Legal Group Limited) regarding the issue of a standard will. The experience up to the in-person meeting and payment for the service was professional however the experience beyond that has been time consuming, vacuous and completely unsatisfactory. It took 6 weeks of telephone calls and reminders between the in-person meeting and the issue of the first draft which contained errors including incorrect names and spellings. My initial complaint was acknowledged but Simpsons Solicitors missed their deadline to respond to my initial complaint. I have referred the matter to the Ombudsman. I wish I had read the earlier reviews regarding this sub-standard organisation. I would avoid using their services at all costs.

Terrible Probate Service - complaint now with Ombudsman

Used Right legal to try to obtain probate for the estate of my parents who sadly both passed away in 2022. Chose Right Legal as my parents had used them (as Simpson Solicitors) for wills and they seemed a very customer focused organisation based on their website.
Experience with them has really been unbelievably bad and as of April this matter has now been passed to the Legal Ombudsman.
I have had the worst customer experience with any company I have ever dealt with. This includes:
Documents sent by them to the wrong address.
Wrong/out of date terms of business sent out.
Impossible to get hold of - 15+ emails/calls ignored. Many promises to pass message on/call back never done.
Meeting to discuss issues missed by rights legal staff with no call/explanation as to why.
When trying to complaints internally none of the staff seemed to know the complaints procedure I should use.
Eventually, having spoken to member of staff dealing with my probate (and foolishly given them a second chance) agreed deadlines were again missed (and lots more calls ignored).
When finally getting the documents to sign found errors - incorrect spelling of surnames - This alone took almost a month to get the corrected form sent out!
Managed, eventually, to raise an official complaint (again after multiple phone calls and being told different things). Initial response was simply to ignore some of the points and generally brush off this criticism with a rather generic corporate email.
Finally got to speak to Head of Customer service who - to be fair - was very honest in admitting that the company had some severe issues with customer service and seemed very genuine and embarrassed and apologised for the service. She offered £150 compensation which I agreed to accept at the end of the process on the condition that there were no more issues and that they kept me proactively informed of progress (Money was going to be donated to Cancer research).
Sadly - no proactivity in keeping me informed - wasn't until I chased, I found out they had received my Fathers probate a month earlier (but hadn't informed me), they also said they would chase my Mothers probate case that day but making a simple phone call to the courts ended up taking 2 weeks.

Based on these last frustrations I've now sent the complaint to the legal ombudsman; I can’t believe the delay Rights Legal has caused, the only area of the business that seemed in anyway proactive was the accounts department chasing payment (which they got at the start of the process last year) . Probates never going to be a nice process given its nature , but a half decent professional service would have made this situation significantly easier.

7 years after Dads death and still not sorted!

Incompetent does not even come close. 7 years after my dads death and Simpsons Solicitors have still not completed the work they were assigned to do.

Dad made them executors so we couldn’t even get rid of them.

Im now Pursuing a claim for negligence and have made a complaint to the legal ombudsman.

Please do not make the same mistake my dad did, avoid these solicitors it’s not worth the stress, anxiety and frustration involved with dealing with them.

Incompetent, lacking professionalism, and still unanswered complaints.

As the previous reviewer, my mother was passed to Right Probate by Simpsons Solicitors and they were supposed to do a fairly simple probate back in April 2020. With Covid I was expecting some delays, but I was not expecting it to take over 10 months, and scores of unanswered emails followed by an official complaint.

The person in charge would usually takes 3+ weeks to reply to even fairly rudimentary emails, and that was usually after 1-2 reminders. Even after two complaints to his supervisor, the situation remained unchanged. I live abroad, was told I must return to sign a document, and on return was told there wasn't actually anything to sign! The incompetence shown at times has been quite breath-taking (for example my correcting them on inheritance allowance, incorrect death of my mothers date on form submitted to UK Gov probate, the list goes on...).

I have submitted a formal complaint to the complaints department, providing them with the chain of emails showing every level of incompetence, and yet despite three emails confirming they would give me the answers to the review 'tomorrow', 'shortly', 'next week', I've yet to hear another over a month later, and have missed their own complaints deadline.

Hopefully my complaint to the Legal Ombudsman will make them improve. I truly hope nobody has to deal with such a level of incompetence, rudeness and lack of professionalism when dealing with something as emotional as probate.

Visit by Jodie Hayes - Right Will Appointment

We met Jodie at our home on 13th November 2024 to discuss in detail our mirror wills.
We requested that she explained the paragraph headed Trust. whether it was 'fit for purpose' for our needs, which had been troubling me for sometime.
Jodie was incredible both for approachability, her expertise and her very professional manner.
She was able to explain the Trust in great detail and surprised us with saying eight out of ten persons now included this in their wills.
Our extreme thanks to a lady who knows her subject thoroughly and politely answered our many questions.
As appropriate we will no doubt be in touch again. Thank you Jodie

Obstructive & Unhelpful

Came over from Australia to assist my mother when her partner passed. Simpson Solicitors held all the documentation and required us to complete a form to get certified copies and said they would 'get back to us' in 14 days. Despite several emails (I got two bouncebacks to the emails send to the original advisor who had sent me my supposed Power of Attorney), I got no response from the last person in the chain. Phone calls proved fruitless (except for one assistant, Anna who was actually helpful and understand our urgency needing documentation to care for my mother) and I just got the same email from the same department saying '14 days'. Have had to request a solicitors meeting and contact the Law Society to get any information or traction. I do not recommend this company at all and suggest you only get assistance from a small law firm or be bogged down in more paperwork when timing is critical. The assistant that originally visited my mother at the time of probate also, did not follow through with changing the property title deeds and just said 'we'll do that later' meaning, we will do that for another fee.

Terrible - would never use or recommend

Paid for a new will over 12 months ago and also for a change to title ownership status for two rental properties. Best part of a year later and when I contact them their person has left and no one was picking up the work. When someone did check the work, neither of two things had been completed. This itself is shocking but it gets worse.
May-24 I'm given a new person to work with and as I have not had any input/response for a while I tried to call them today (29-Aug-24) so they only had three whole months to pick up and resolve things. Firstly I couldn't contact them as they had been using the incorrect address and phone number in their email signature. Secondly, the person handling my affairs to resolve the outstanding has now also left. And yet again, no one has picked up the case file.

What sort of business cannot do basic customer service?
How can a firm of solicitors with their high rates get away with such non-existent customer service?

I have tried to reach someone senior in the business but there are no names. The main website doesn't even provide an email address or a form to submit.

Just went to look at Companies House to find names of actual Directors... and their company hasn't even filed their own Confirmation Statement in time. They are breaching HMRC Companies House rules of not having a valid Confirmation Statement.

Wish I had not come across them and can't believe others are not having similar experiences as from my experience its not about one person getting something slightly wrong or a basic typo, its just they have no systems and processes in place for these basic tasks to go through.

I will update if I'm able to when I hear back. I wonder if the Legal Ombudsman getting involved would cause them to wake up.

Richard Hall

Awful

We dealt with Simpsons Solicitors (part of the Right Legal Group Limited) and had a less than satisfactory experience when creating our new wills. The wills were simple with no special requirements. Between the spelling mistakes, incorrect names on each will, portions of their default template left in place inappropriately and the absolutely glacial pace of communication we were left wanting. All in it took Simpsons Solicitors 14 months to finally produce correct wills and deliver them to us for signing. On top of this, almost two years after initially paying for their services I am now being chased for additional, unwarranted payment. I would avoid this company at all costs.

Probate application still not in after nearly two years

This firm do not even deserve one star. The service has been absolutely appalling and prospective clients should go elsewhere. Right Legal were instructed in June 2022 to process my mother's straightforward probate application. We have speedily provided all information requested to keep things moving. For no good reason, the development of the probate application has proceeded at slower than snail's pace. We have politely waited weeks sometimes months for updates and these have only been provided after several emails from us. The firm has upheld two formal complaints from me about slow service and poor communication. Finally the papers came through to sign in November 2023 and the firm verified that they had been received back by them and would be sent on. Unbelievably my sister found out yesterday (April 2024) that the application has still not been submitted!!!
