Fatal Medical Negligence Claims and Inquests

Medical Negligence helped to get answers and secure positive outcomes

Last year my wife passed away whilst in a mental health hospital. Initially, the NHS Trust tried to justify the circumstances and did not seem to acknowledge their failings in keeping my wife safe. So without Irwin Mitchell's help, the family would not have got the answers we deserved.

The Irwin Mitchell team (Thomas Riss-Bristow, Larrisa Harpley & Adam Wisman) were brilliant from the start, helping to gather all the required evidence, liaising with the Coroners office and the NHS legal representatives and then supporting the family during a week-long Inquest and the following legal discussions that came after. The team were professional, compassionate and caring throughout and I would highly recommend Tom and the team as they were key in helping us to get answers during these traumatic times.

Messed about and ripped off

appointed these following a dispute with a kitchen retailer who took my money upfront and failed to complete the job
They have ripped me and my insurance company off for approximately 50 grand taken almost 3 years to achieve nothing, had me pay out over £2500 for independent inspection reports all 100% favouring my claim and have now walked away after myself and my family have lived and suffered in a partly fitted kitchen and they advised me to leave it in such a Way as to give the retailer a fare chance to come back and compete the works

The company that carried out the report also dealt with legal matters and they quoted 5k to take the case on however I’d already engaged with Irwin Mitchell

To say it’s not fair is an understatement

READ THIS URGENTLY BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING!
Not Happy ( Always read the bad reviews then you get a true picture of how bad things can go )
Mum went into a care home for 2.5 years she passed away recently
She was a very well read and intellectual person even though she was diagnosed with dementia I believe till her final days she knew everything what was happening
In her day to day life without warning 6 months before she died she stopped eating I will never know why she did this but I believe it was her way of dealing with her situation and protecting her family from the Wolves
IM were acting deputies for financial affairs
They didn't visit mum once in all the time she was in care to talk to her regards her needs and means assessments also I'm amazed they didn't even talk to her regards making a will
Even after 2.5 years they still didn't even manage to complete Court Of Protection
But let's be clear and say they were charging from day one soon as mum was in care
I'm the next of kin and am now responsible for my mums outstanding debts
I have a bill for 12.000 and looking through it on many multiple occasions they have charged £176 for 10 minutes work
I have asked repeatedly for information relating to nhs end of life funding also possible benefits like attendance allowance which mum could have been entitled
Mum worked for many years in the NHS and paid her national insurance contributions all her life
I have a huge care bill of £90.000
The big question is this bill correct? how can I ever know the answer? Because the fact is the assessments weren't done from the start?
This is a shocking situation and I am finding it extremely stressful to deal with
Chichester Council were responsible for choosing Irwin Mitchell as their solicitor of choice to deal with my mum's affairs
Had I been given the choice it would have been Emily Allchurch from Owen Kenny the truth is I would've paid double to her because she is the best at taking care of the elderly and because it's knowing that your loved ones are in safe hands that matters (NOT MONEY)
I declined the deputyship because it looked very complicated and difficult to do
I simply didn't want to make any mistakes
Irwin Mitchell were in constant contact with me via email over the time mum was in care little did I realise that every email was costing atleast £176 I feel sick about that if only I had known I wouldn't have spoken to them at all
It's shocking to think of it now I bet they loved getting emails from family I can imagine them rubbing their hands together
One thing is for sure they didn't once mention fees to me nothing well hidden
I now have a long road ahead and first I need to contact the court of protection so they can review the fees as I'm not happy
I now believe that I could have done a much better job by myself as within the first 14 days of mum going into care I would have made sure she was correctly assessed
It's funny reading IM website because it's clear they know about deputyship because for £500 they will sell you a specialist deputies package which will guide you step by step how to be successful at it
Take my advice I have witnessed all the information for free online as it should be
I guess I'm lost for words
The worst part is that I thought she was in safe hands and everything was being taken care of for her
I really hope I don't get a reply from them especially the reply that says we are looking into the matter or that they are sorry for my loss
Please send me all the case notes and public guardian reports so I can try to fix this situation
Do you really believe that you are entitled to 12000 ????
I am writing this review in the middle of the night because I carnt sleep most nights I wake up and it's because of this and the injustice
I believe we are all accountable for our actions and decisions whether your a cleaner or solicitor we are all the same and will we have a clear conscience when our time comes ? Whatever job you do it should be done properly and with pride so you can look back and say I did my best and earned my rewards in an honest manner
I was kept in the darkness all the time they were in charge the only time they would be interested in me was to kick me out of mums house so they could sell it and get paid that's the fact of the matter
So what are you going to do Irwin Mitchell?
When you all get up in the morning please do me a favour and take a long hard look at yourself in the bathroom mirror WHAT DO YOU SEE ???

Poor service

I would concur with another reviewer that Lindsay Fox doesn't provide any help and tries every trick in the book to stall your case and waste your time asking for updates. Terrible is the service I've got from this company .

Unreliable

Despite leaving messages and assusances of a reply within 24 hours, I'm still waiting a week later.
Would you put your legal trust in a firm that even can't organise themselves to return a call
I'm certainly not going to.

Terrible useless lazy greedgreedy

I was referred to Irwin Mitchell as my insurance company deals with them. Lindsey fox made sure to avoid all calls and emails despite chasing time and again knowing full well that my case was extremely time sensitive and there was a huge amount at stake that I was trying to recover. At each point she dragged things out the maximum possible time was rude uncooperative petty to the point of becoming impossible to deal with and threatened me constantly that she would ask my insurers to stop funding her legal fees. It has now been over 1 month and this incompetent woman with a chip on her shoulder has done less than nothing. Meanwhile I have been spending my hard earned money on lawyers directly. Now she has tried to get funding to 'write a letter' thT she knows has not only been written but also a response received. I have paid the insurance premium, I have paid lawyers directly, I have gone through so much stress and hassle to provide all the case material to this lazy incompetent woman and now she has had the cheek to get funding from my insurers to pay for her undeserved holiday without passing any benefits to me. Long story short despite my insurers paying out this greedy womN with a grudge to bear Hs made sure I get no help and made my case impossible and also kept the money for sitting Nd doing nothing but be a pain. IF YOUR INSURERS USE IM CHANGE THEM I KNOW I WILL.

WISH I COULD GIVE ZERO STARS!!

Wish I could give zero stars!! On contacting them and the assistant taking 30 mins to take an account of my accident claim, the forms came through completely wrong, even saying i was an employee of the company i had the accident at!! No one got back to me after trying to contact them. When I said I was thinking of not going with them another person convinced me to stay so I signed the forms. TWO MONTHS LATER, I requested a phone call asking for an update and Tania Sultana calls to say she is still going through the claim and will get back to me by end of week. Within 1 minute, I get an email from her saying they are not going to continue with claim. ABSOLUTE TIME WASTERS!!!! AVOID, TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE

Better and cheaper options out there!

Be careful as to whom you put down as an executor of a will because if it's a solicitors the charges for probate/dealing with the estate "could" run into thousands as per the experience here, and it's difficult to nigh impossible to remove them without having to go through a court. Whether it's charging by the hour or charging a percentage of the estate I am sure many don't realise how much this will cost because of course when you write a will you may have no idea of the fees that they will charge. So my advice is if your loved one has made a will through a solicitor maybe an uncomfortable conversation may be best to avoid a massive shock later. We will never know if using Irwin Mitchell as an executor was the wish of our loved one or if possible (alleged) "persuasion" was a factor when the will was being set up. I know our loved one would be horrified if they were still here.

Highly unprofessional and incompetent.

Highly unprofessional and incompetent. Visited Rob Mulvaney at the Newbury branch. He looked as if he had just got in from a night out, very scruffy and tired. The meeting led the same course, as he could barely string a sentence together or answer simple, direct questions. Then proceeded to give loose quotes of 2.5 - 4k, then 5 minutes later to say 3.5 - 5k. Had to wait for a call a week later to confirm it will be 5k. Lost complete confidence and have gone elsewhere for a cheaper instant quote with someone more reliable.

They don't actually seem accountable for any service.

I am reviewing one of Irwin Mitchell's Group companies - Debtguard who they proudly boast are affordable and effective. I have been chasing a small claim for over a year! The amount I have paid them is now more than the initial claim! They don't actually seem accountable for any service. You can raise a small claims case yourself as they don't actually add anything but a letter template they send out! A manager said today he was happy with the service his team provides but maybe they could have responded quicker. Massive understatement, at 4 months for a response, including what appears to be blocking my phone number and endless 'not at his desk' and 'in a meeting' responses. Still up in the air and apparently it's the bailiffs fault and this is normal. Massive sham of a company.
