Negative and Unsupportive
Sussex Defence Solicitors (SDS) state that Legal Aid does not guarantee the best defence. I engaged SDS although they required payment prior to any work being undertaken. Later, I was surprised to be told that they would not represent me in the Magistrates Court and advising the sharpness of a London barrister they use - at additional cost in advance. (My case had solid written proof of lies in the sworn witness statement of the other party.)
As the case progressed I became more and more disheartened and dismayed in my view at the negative and unsupportive attitude of SDS towards my case. It caused me much more concern and stress than the actual case being brought against me.
I tried to change to a different solicitors practice, but they would not do so for a case that was already in progress. I seriously considered the SDS Compliants Procedure, but this just commenced with referral to another SDS Partner, and if that failed, then referral to a third SDS Partner.
A positive aspect is their handy location, being on the third floor of a shared Victorian house in the centre of Worthing.
