The worst experience I´ve ever had

I’d like to share my bad experience with Anthony&Jarvie Solicitor to alert potential customers.

Me and my wife hired them in March 2024 to complete the sale of the house we were selling. And week after week this business relationship ended up to be a nightmare.

To start with I’d like to say something obvious before I explain my story, which is that an average citizen does not have knowledge in law and legal stuff in general (unless you study it or had a previous experience dealing with this sort of things). Having made this clear, let’s start.

Like I said above, me and my wife hired them in March 2024 and Gordon was the conveyancer dealing with our sale. The first few days he was okay but soon we noticed he seemed to expect us to know all the proceedings and documents required (And we are social workers, not lawyers). This, in addition to the lack of support from him and lack of communication prolonged the process over 5 months. This lack of communication includes , us, the buyer’s solicitors and the Estate agents we sold our property through. Every time we emailed him, he used to ignored us, every time we called him he seemed to be annoyed (the way he spoke, grunting…) like thinking “I am dealing with dumbs” wrongly assuming people, again, should know about the stuff/advice he was being paying for. At the time went by it became difficult to contact him by phone, always the voicemail on, we used to leave messages on it and they were ignored too… chasing him was impossible, and when his secretary answered she always said he was on holiday, in a meeting, or not available. When we were lucky to get an answer from him (very rare, used to be on a Friday afternoon. He also pretended us to get some reports and documents from the local council or get them from the solicitors we used to buy the property we were selling. Something Gordon should have done it and not expect us to do. Laziness I suppose.

Over the weeks, all parts involved in the deal started to get frustrated, so the way Gordon worked was by ultimatums as the little we could move ahead during 5 months was after telling him about hiring new solicitors. Even when we gave him a final opportunity, instead of making things done and fixing the problem he had created, he went on holidays (by the way, we all deserve holidays but you should take them when you do not have urgent outstanding work). So he ignored the last opportunity and we received an email from the buyer’s solicitors saying if we did not change solicitors they would pull out the offer. So we did so, we broke with Anthony and Jarvis solicitors and we hired new ones. We tried to give them a notice by phone, but ‘oh’ surprise, Gordon did not answer, we emailed him and he did not answer neither at all.

We hired new solicitors, Howell’s solicitors to be precise in August 2024 and after literally 10 days working with them, we were in the same position we were with Gordon after 5 months. And after few more weeks we finally reached the completion day and all parts got their money and were happy.

In summary and to finish with: if I were you, I would not hire this solicitors unless you want to deal with a very unprofessional, unsupportive, unreachable and lazy conveyancer that no one knows how is possible they are still in business with the bad customer service they provide.

P.D.: It would be ironic and funny if Gordon answer this review when he did not answer my emails in the past. But if so, Gordon, read twice what I wrote above and do you a favour: you still have time to become a professional and to provide a good service to your future customers, meanwhile the only adjective I can use to describe you is unreliable.
