Incredibly poor

A very poor experience, avoid Butterworths.
A very poor experience, with delays and incompetence at each stage.

A simple conveyancing issue, with a slight complication in a court order to be enforced. Many delays and poor communication, and when the court order was finally enacted I wasn't informed until I chased the court myself - only to be informed that my solicitor had been informed a month earlier.

My Butterworths solicitor claimed that she needed legal advice before dealing with that - the irony! I have no doubt that if I hadn't contacted the court myself I'd still be waiting for Butterworths to deal with the issue. My first mortgage offer expired after several renewals, I still don't know whether Butterworths had even attempted to deal with the court at that point.

They did offer to reduce the bill by £180 to reflect the poor service, but then increased their quoted court application fee from £100 to £400! The final bill was far in excess of the quote, with no unexpected events to justify the increase.

Finally, on completion day they refused to give a completion statement showing their fees until after completion. They gave 3 separate figures on the day, ranging from £4,200 to £33,600, and the final figure wasn't any of the 3 given. No explanation given for the differences.

My advice would be to steer well clear of Butterworths.

Fantastic Service from start to finish. Highly recommend

Never had such a dedicated team who helped me and my wife with the purchase of our house so much. When they say they do something they did it straight away and phoned on the dot every day with any updates. Gemma and her team were brilliant. Would highly recommend Butterworths to anyone, you will not be disappointed with the service they give. If I could give more stars I would. If we move again i will be using Butterworth again.

Brilliant team!!
We were first time buyers and our purchase got complicated having to change solicitors. From our first conversation with Butterworths, even before we were assigned a solicitor they were helpful and kind. Our solicitor, Laura, was approachable and really took the time to answer our questions and explain everything to us. When she was not able to communicate with us her assistant was there to help and ensure we were looked after. We were in a desperate situation and very stressed out but they were able to ease that stress and complete the purchase for us as fast as they could. We are so very grateful for Laura and the whole team at Butterworths.

We went to Butterworths at the recommendation of the estate agent for the purchase of our house, what a great recommendation it turned out to be! In the past we have had some very bad experiences with other solicitors to the point of having to change mid-purchase so we were initially nervous but those nerves quickly dissapeared.

Butterworths, and in particular, our conveyancer Sarah Crampton, was excellent. I could not think of anything that could have been handled better, communication was excellent, whether via email or in person. Everything was explained clearly despite the purchase being very complicated due to land transfer issues. Nothing was ever rushed, explanations were clear and we had complete trust in Sarah’s professional abilities.

Thank you Sarah. If anybody is browsing reviews, as we did, trying to find a good solicitors, look no further. There may be cheaper options elsewhere, but in the end you may regret choosing them as we have never experienced service like this.
