A nice local firm to deal with and in a friendly Northern manner

I have used GMW a number of times over the last few years. They are friendly, reliable and they get the job done.

There are times when legal firms are busy and whilst there is sometimes a delay in responding (usually due to the increase in business levels), deadlines have pretty much always been met.

What a customer wants when dealing with a legal firm, is to be able to trust the advice being given and to know that the firm acting has their best interests at heart throughout the process. I have always found the team at GMW pleasant and genuine to deal with and have referred them to friends and clients alike.

Avoid at all costs.

Very poor customer service. Made to feel you are a nuisance when all you want is some information. Phoned one day for an update told search was on solicitors desk awaiting her checking 3 weeks later phone again told by another assistant still on solicitors desk awaiting scrutiny. Not providing updates. Bought property in February chain collapsed on the moving day in September. This could have been avoided if they had passed a message I sent them on the moving day onto GM Wilson Wakefield that their client in the the chain was thinking of pulling out. This gave them time to contact their client and explain what had happened in an effort to keep them in the chain. This did not get passed on and the Wakefield branch did not find out their client had pulled out until Monday afternoon ,Had to resort to contacting other members of the chain to find out what the hold -up was. Had three assistants dealing with our sale but one part timer dealing with our purchase who left the office every day at 2.30pm. Due to the Stamp Duty holiday they appeared greedy taking on clients they knew they could not cope with and it felt like the expensive properties were prioritised over the cheaper ones. We, of course, had to pay for the conveyancing even though it did not complete and them was told it would be £220 plus vat to continue with the purchase that had already reached completion!!!! Worst experience of our lives. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED

Fantastic experience

I can not thank G M solicitors.enoigh for there professionalism and attention when it came to the purchase of my property.
They took the stress away from the purchase of my property, seeing to every minor detail without any effort and keeping me informed at all times. I would highly recommend their series and wouldn't think of going anywhere else in any future purchase I make.

Cost effective

Competitively priced. Although not sure that my concerns were listened to with regards to the builder’s contract but then again I probably shouldn’t have gone with the builders recommended solicitor. I know for next time.
Also when querying items flagged on the search pack I was given an incredibly vague answer that didn’t really help or clarify matters so not really sure what I was paying for, as I didn’t feel like they were working for me.
Alison Ternent was helpful keeping me updated though.

Wouldn't Recommend

In my honest opinion if I could give them 0 stars I would.
Not only was buying a property stressful but these solicitors made it even more so.
As first time buyers we lacked the knowledge of a more experienced home buyer and were treated the same nonetheless.
There were a few issues that we had:

1. Nothing was explained to us; at times I would just get an email with an attachment and be forced to ask what it was and what I needed to do with it.

2. Everytime I called I don't think I was ever put through to a solicitor, they either passed on a message to the receptionist or said they would email.

3. As email was our main source of communication we relied on it heavily. There were many times they would answer part of the email not all. I asked three times what happens on the day of exchange and completion and this question was never answered unfortunately we had to resort to Google.

4. We were not updated as often as we would like and so we were forced to call for updates.

5. Staff would apologise for sometimes a 7 day delay and would say they were on annual leave which shouldn't affect us.

6. After expressing our concerns toward the end we were never apologised to, instead our email went unanswered which I thought to be quite rude as a paying customer.

Unfortunately we will not be recommending these solicitors and I do hope that this doesn't happen to anyone else.
