If you want a smooth, quick, house sale do not use these solicitors. I was on the receiving end as my buyers were using the Wells Moger Drewett branch, so I didn’t use their services directly but when you are involved in a transaction such as this you are obviously relying on solicitors in the chain to communicate and be professional plus operate in a timely manner. Well, with Moger Drewett they ticked none of these boxes. Our purchasers went with them - we were told - because they said they would do everything they could to get the sale through by the 31st March, as we had requested a quick sale and when we met them on one of the viewings, they were pushing to move quickly too. After accepting the offer on the house at the beginning of February, We finally completed on the 28th MAY - average house sales take 12 weeks I am told, this was 16. We originally planned for 8! My solicitor (another local firm and brilliant at that), did everything in her power to try and get things completed in time, Moger Drewett did not reply to emails and dragged it out two months longer than it should have done - with no explanation that reached me, at all as to why it was taking so long. They hadn’t even applied foe searches until three weeks after the offer was accepted . I could have moved into my new property before the end of March as my solicitor for my purchase was obviously on the ball and is a lot more customer focussed than Moger Drewett and it was ready a week before the end of March. The worst thing was, we were meant to exchange two weeks before completion (dictated to us by Moger Drewett and seemingly non negotiable) and yet a week later, it was them holding it all up still due to making huge mistakes in the buyers paperwork... even the buyers names were wrong when they were about to sign contracts!
Beyond a joke and quite frankly incompetent and no apology or obviously any compensation offered.. I’m out of pocket due to the amount of time chasing my poor solicitor.
Do not touch them with a barge pole. I’m only relieved I never used them for my divorce... every cloud has a silver lining.
