1st time buyer experience ruined

If i could leave 0 stars i would. Awful communication, they kept making mistakes but couldnt get them on the phone, extremely unprofessional and rude demeanour. Had my case transferred to another solicitor and it made no difference. I had no chain and completion still took 8 months because of them, my seller almost pulled out. I made a formal complaint with them in February and still have nothing from them. AVOID THEY DO NOT DESERVE YOUR MONEY.

First time buyer

Whilst I am grateful to Apex Law for ensuring that I was able to complete the purchase on my property before the stamp duty law took into effect, this was a stressful process that was not made easy. Only reason I gave 2 stars but would have given 1.
I was initially assigned Shelsea Baldock as my solicitor. Initially, everything seemed to be going well with communication fairly good. I had put in an offer end of October and by November I had my mortgage offer come through and it was all looking positive. There was a tracker I could use to follow the progress of my purchase.
When it came to December, I heard nothing from Apex Law. My mortgage advisor assured me this sometimes happens were everything seems to progress quickly and you hit a quiet patch so I assumed this was normal. When it got to January and I hadn't heard from Apex Law, I emailed them and did not get a response. The sellers of the home I was purchasing were using Purple bricks as their agent so I could directly message the seller and vice versa. The seller started to message me enquiring on the progress but informed them I had not spoken or heard from Apex Law. My mortgage advisor who had recommended Apex Law reached out and that is when I got a response from the CEO, Phil May saying that the whole office had been down with the flu hence why I hadn't heard from anyone.
My mortgage advisor put in a formal complaint regarding Shelsea who had never responded to any emails and my case seemed to have been overtaken by Phil. I sent an email expressing my concerns about the stamp duty law changes and wanted to ensure that the purchase was completed prior to that and I had no response.
It got to a point were the seller's solicitors were not getting responses from Apex Law regarding searches on the house and the seller started messaging me wanting an update I could not provide as I myself could not get a hold of my own solicitors. Phil then stated that there had been delays caused by the sellers solicitors and that they were not being truthful which had resulted in the delays in the progress of purchase but not much in the way of assuring me their client.
My mortgage advisor then took her concerns to Curve conveyancers who had sub-contracted my case to Apex Law. It was only when Tracy from curve conveyancer got involved that this seemed to put a bit of pressure on getting updates which were often one sentence emails. My progress tracker was not getting updated and even after asking numerous times, I felt like I was bothering them when it was something that I the client had been asking.
By some miracle, I was able to complete. Even when doing the transfers of the deposit, I had to ask if they could confirm receipt as this was not something they felt they needed to communicate when for me, I needed the assurance that my life savings had gone through.
Overall, poor communication and customer services. I really wish I had read the reviews before accepting them to handle my case. I personally wouldn't recommend if you value your peace of mind.

Apex Law awful communication

Unsatisfying service. The conveyancer did not seem interested with my case. As a first time buyer the service could have been better. The attitude of the conveyancer was not accommodating. The process took 7 months and the purchase was not complete.

Staff are very rude

My mother is in the process of selling her property and having finally spoken to someone today from APEX law the lady looking after my mum's case was screaming and shouting at me down the phone and would not let me speak. In the end I put the phone down. Avoid APEX Law at all costs!

Worst conveyancing solicitors

Lost me my sellers with lack of communication, delays, and literally no response to emails, phone calls - please don't ever instruct this firm, they were also very rude overall. I also felt like they didn't know what they were doing half the time, but makes sense as they are not actual solicitors. They then had the check to charge me the full fee!!!!

AVOID AVOID AVOID.

Six months of suffering the worst service ever. No communication at all and, at the end I was charged nearly £1,200 more without any notice or explanation.

Needlessly stressfull

We dealt with the Bexleyheath office personnel for our experience, this review relates to that. In summary, they completed the sale and were only slightly about 10% above my other quotes. Was I satisfied and would I use Apex again? No, a firm no.

We used them as recommendation (commission based) from an agent friend of mine. They are associated to a number of agents and so gain a lot of work via their paid commission it seems (standard practice I’m sure).

Early on, we regretted our choice, and come very close to changing solicitors mid process, we thought the chain would move faster so opted not to, if we’d known the actual timescales we’d have certainly moved away. Apex Law’s idea of customer service doesn’t feel 2022, and although I suspect this is a problem of the industry, it doesn’t make it right and it could be a point of difference for them.

To give some examples, we are first time buyers buying a house outside of the threshold a Help to Buy ISA could be used for. So, you’d hope/imagine that when sending out documents they’d not send documents that are irrelevant to us. No, they just dump 10-12 documents on you with zero guidance and zero advice on what needs and doesn’t need signing. It adds to stress, for no reason at all. And this isn’t’ something you’re paying for, the stress should be partially removed by their professionalism, it isn’t sadly.

Unless you’re buying/selling a property regularly, which for most is not the case, this doesn’t help. You can roughly work out what you need to do, but not wanting to slow the process, repeat documents etc. you may wish to contact them. They’ll answer emails, but never in a thorough way, and so you end up ping ponging emails. You cannot phone them or drop in of course. They are busy, I understand that, but this lack of upfront effort, creates reactive issues.

There is a huge assumption that you know exactly what to do, when to do it etc. In a more customer focused 2022, this feels like something from the 1990s.

On two occasions, we voiced these concerns and were met with a very defensive, borderline hostile return. We didn’t bother again, it was hitting your head against a brick wall.

They get a star for generally answering emails the same day, but consider comments above about the need to then ping pong the email for a few more days to get a proper answer.

Overall, as said, I’d take my chances anywhere else in the future, there was nothing horrific and the did get the job done (but hey are also regulated by the SRA I’m assuming), but it was just a needlessly stressful and unpleasant experience dealing with them
