Probate
I would have reservations in recommending this solicitor’s firm to anyone wishing to obtain grant of probate after the loss of a loved one.
They managed in their initial communication to me to get my deceased mother’s gender and my name wrong on the first page of a document which was otherwise generic. There was yet another variation of my name in the ID and security check portal which not surprisingly didn’t work when I attempted to login. They did not read all the emails that I sent to them as they duplicated work that I had done and then charged us for the privilege. They put an incorrect address on the probate submission form which led to us being charged for additional emails. It took them almost four months to submit the forms for probate at a time when there were already lengthy delays for obtaining grant of probate.
I have found my dealings with them to be extremely stressful and would not wish anyone else at a time of grieving to have to go through such an unpleasant experience. We were warned about their slowness but by that time we had already made an appointment to see them and decided, unwisely in retrospect, to give them the benefit of the doubt. They did not admit to making any mistakes and tried to blame others including myself for the many delays in obtaining funds from my mother’s various accounts.
They did not return phone calls when they said they would but sent emails instead, which because of incorrect messages being passed on lead to extra emails having to be sent and incurred additional charges.
They were very reluctant to release any of the funds they had obtained even after probate, taking over four months to do so and only after two phone calls and an email. Hard copies of documents were only sent to one of the executors rather than both of us, presumably to save on their costs.
To sum up slow and careless management of a very straightforward estate.
