Andy Barton divorce lawyer

I chose Stephen’s and scown thinking they would be great for me in my toxic divorce haveing checked out Andy Barton he seemed the guy I needed in reality he didn’t do what I expected and charged me over £45k and I ended up loosing out , as soon as you state your unhappy he didn’t want to know and I withheld a final payment of £3.5 k he then instructed enforcement officers to collect a so called debt from my parents house who are in there 80s and are unwell , who called at 7pm in the dark scarring my parents , when I’ve never lived at there address ! Shocking behaviour so be carefull they are only intersted in racking up huge fees

They did an amazing job

I used Sarah Walls at Stephens Scown for my divorce. She was excellent and understood my difficulties. She helped me navigate apart towards resolving conflicts and encouraged me The person when things got time. I would highly recommend her and the entire team.

Family Law - Divorce

I went to Stephens Scown with literally weeks to go before an FDR after a very long legal battle and getting nowhere. Harriet Wigmore, Shavaun Womersley and Grace were incredible in the support they provided and in their knowledge on family law. They worked so efficiently responding to everything to ensure I was ready for court. Georgina Swinglehurst represented me in court along with Harriet, both were phenomenal in the way they worked together to reach fair settlement and ensure closure.

The guidance and reassurance i was given throughout this case mirrored the outcome. I genuinely felt i had people on my side and the hours some days that emails were sent shows this isn't just a job, they genuinely care about the outcome and have passion for what they do.

I would not hesitate in recommending Stephens Scown family law department.

Avoid - they do NOT carry out wills as per the deceases instructions

Please do NOT work with Stephen Scown or the Team leader for Solicitor Estate & Inhertiance Disputes at Truro. They will make you pay to support the third party you have a dispute with, charge you if you don't answer their calls when they ring and will not carry out the will as per your later partners instructions. They have now had the trust fund my late partner left me for over two years which has caused me extreme hardship. This is despite all trustees agreeing the trust fund belongs to me. Also charged me £24k on top of moving costs to move house (so it cost me about £30k to move house - absolute rip off). Just so I could get an RX4 (signed by a second party - to release the charge on my property to move) and release my equity. Charged their costs to the trust fund (illegal) and taken interest payments from this for their bills without the permission of the trustees. This caused extreme upset to me, to my first time buyer, the family I was buying from (who had were getting divorced and who had recently lost a child, whilst moving). SS are rogue solicitors. AVOID AT ALL COST

My honest opinion

I cannot believe how absolutely awesome this firm is. Our immigration solicitor Lisa has proved to be an outstanding asset to this firm. Lisa goes above and beyond to achieve the best possible result for her clients. We also want to praise all the other staff that helped us along with Lisa they are a credit to the firm. We highly recommend this firm to anyone wanting a first class service. A HUGE THANK YOU TO YOU ALL

I never felt they were 'on my side'

My case was passed through three solicitors as each predecessor left the company. Despite being told that I was not charged for each new one to 'get up to speed' I felt this is what happened. The last solicitor, to me, seemed more interested in invoicing than actually investigating the case. The first invoice was wrong and I had to get help to get this corrected. Then, despite promising that he would consider a 'no win no fee' instead requested a huge minimum sum for continuing with the case. They also promised 'free' advice but when I did not accept continuing with the fees requested, they charged me for the 'free' advice. I had to pay this after winning the case with a different company.

Worst divorce lawyers in Cornwall

I was recommended this firm. Disaster! The lawyer who dealt with the financial proceedings in my divorce was weak and just did not fight for me. She gave in on every major point. In fact the only thing she was good at was billing me massive amounts every month and refusing to do further work until paid. And when I followed the firm’s complaints procedure the partner dealing was arrogant and unhelpful. And refused to agree to arbitration to resolve the matter. So I lost my home and paid this firm a five figure sum for the privilege.

Tenant Eviction

We had decided to sell our BTL which was next door to the house we owned before we moved. Our circumstances had changed in that we no longer lived next door which was one of the reasons we purchased as we lived in a University Town & also to help fund our Daughters 5 years at Vet College. We had given our tenant all of the required notice including Covid & had sold the house, however he didn't want to move out. We had no other option than to engage Helen Thomas who was supporting & informative every step of the way, in what was a very stressful situation our us.
We now have our property back & all being well will complete this month, I would have no hesitation using Stephens & Scown again & would highly recommend their services.
