Conveyance

Simon and the team kept me up to date with the conveyancing of the house sale. The fees were close to the estimate and all went smoothly with the exchange and completion.

Poor service, lack of accountability and looks for loopholes

My experience with Furley has been quite disappointing. Their lack of due diligence and unhelpful attitude have caused me additional stress and costs. They have not taken responsibility for their actions, and their handling of the situation has been poor. I suggest reconsidering their recommendation in the future, as their customer service and problem resolution need significant improvement.

Totally approachable and precise

I have dyslexia and initially was overwhelmed by thought of going through the purchase of a Shared Ownership Property. Simon and his team were superb from the outset. They clearly went through every step with me, detailed what I needed to do in order. Totally impressed and grateful to them. Excellent value for money. High recommend.

Great service for Wills and residential Property

Luke Page acted for me in a Will transaction. The service was given in a timely manner. I was provided with sound advice and Luke was always available when I called.

Deborah Trott also acted for me on a residential property matter. Deborah gave practical advice on various matters during the transaction. She always returned my calls and emails and had a friendly approach considering some of the difficulties of the transaction.

I would highly recommend these two lawyers again.

Bad experience perhaps the result of unfortunate circumstances.

After my experience with FurleyPage as executor of my sister’s will, I would not
recommend appointing a lawyer as sole executor; better to avoid choosing one as
an executor at all for, for FP have taken weeks to effect what any layman could
bring about in a day or two.

FP, or its agent Heather Dunlop. took 5-6 weeks to obtain an address book needed
for a funeral to go ahead, with the result that the funeral took place eight weeks
after the death; similarly, it took three months to find a courier to ship certain items
to me here in Canada (two days only were needed for actual transport).

I have asked (six months ago and counting) for explanations/justifications of FP’s
actions or rather inactions, but my request is ignored as are other matters that have
puzzled me.

Whether or not the probate and tax report were handled in the same lackadaisical
way, I know not.

It is true that I have been forced to communicate by email only, and face-to-face I
might have been better satisfied, and then able to join those happy ‘customers’ that
have sung Heather Dunlop’s praises elsewhere; however, my overall impression is that lawyers are
just too busy to give their full attention to acting as the executor of a will.

Excellent service in a business transaction

We recently sold a business in Kent using Tony Chester and Will King at Furley Page's Chatham office. They were really excellent. Very professional and pleasant to deal with and gave clear, practical advice. The transaction went through satisfactorily thanks in no small part to them.

Incorrect legal advice

Having paid over £2,000, I was subsequently informed by another solicitor that the legal advice provided by Furley Page, in relation to my late father's estate, was wrong. Their advice only applied if there was a will; my father did not leave a will. In response to my complaint, a Senior Partner at Furley Page acknowledged I had been given that advice. However there was no admission of error; no accountability; no apology. I was advised to refer the matter to the Legal Ombudsman. They made me feel insignificant.

Billable hours more important than client care

Very distressing experience, at a time when I was under immense stress. If you are offered a trainee solicitor, say no. Everything will take longer and you will be charged for the trainee's time (£192 per hour) plus the supervisor's time (up to £390 per hour) to check their work, even if you only want a few words changed in a letter. They charge for everything: letters and emails before you have seen their terms of business; amendments to letters where your instructions have not been understood; clarification of information they have provided that is ambiguous; unnecessary emails and phone calls; administrative tasks; emails to tell you how much you are being charged; reviewing work they have already charged for; internal communication. I would not recommend this firm.
