Appalling service

My family hired Bates to disperse and settle a family estate. The past nearly three years have been painful: lack of communication, delay in even the simplest of tasks, calculation errors which have caused us pain and hassle, and a general lack of care or engagement from Nicola. She are the team are seemingly unconcerned, unprofessional and unhelpful. We have to consistently chase to get even the bare minimum done. We have escalated the issue to a partner, Ian, who seems similarly disengaged and unconcerned.

I cannot overstate this: do not hire Bates. Seek counsel elsewhere.

Isobel and the Bates team acted for me to sell my property and buy a new home. They went above and beyond to get things done.

I was impressed from start to finish as they expertly steered me through the process and were helpful and encouraging throughout.

Avoid, poor communication and slow

Trying to get some paperwork done and I’ve chased them about 10 times via phone and email. The solicitor is always on holiday, they say they’ll call you back but never do. Often on lunch when you call through.

I’m in a situation where the paperwork needs to be completed ASAP so I can make arrangements with property - it’s months down the line and still unclear if they’ve even submitted it. No reference number provided, nothing. Good luck if you use these guys, you’ll be chasing and chasing….feels like they just want to fob you off!

Disgraceful Treatment of Clients …….

I had an appointment to pick up my husbands Will on Friday at 2.30.
As if that wasn’t bad enough, when I arrived after a 5 of so mile journey, I needed to use the toilet. ( I’m 74 years old and on water tablets for my heart so even after going before I left home I needed to go again.
CAN YOU BELIEVE THE RECEPTIONIST WOULDNT LET ME USE THE TOILET😱!!!
COMPANY POLICY SHE SAID - SINCE COVID!!!
WHAT ON EARTH DO THEY THINK ONE OF THEIR PAYING CLIENTS IS GOING TO DO TO THEIR TOILET BEATS ME!!
She wasn’t even wearing a mask so Covid isn’t of uppermost importance in ‘Company Policy’ - do you think???
Yes - I wet myself, had the indignity of soiling my clothes and my to drive back home to change when I was supposed to be meeting a friend for tea!
Thank you Bates!!!
If you need to contact me then you will know who I am and my contact details …..
I would just LOVE to hear from you…… you wait till you get old, unwell AND loose your Partner - then someone treats you like this …..

Ibwould not recommend Them

I would have given them 5 stars for the initial help they gave me but then when i went back to them to ask what it would cost for further help with specific information and specifically asked them for me not incur more charges without my agreement they then went ahead and billed me a ridiculous amount without informing me first.
I just received an invoice for a new amount.
As a person out of work going through a divorce it was very unfair of them to do this. I had been very clear about not incurring anymore costs without my permission .
I am not having to get more legal advice to handle this at a time when my focus should be on other things.
Just be very careful when dealing with this company and you wouldbexpect a solicitor to help you and be transparent .
Very disappointed

Highly recommended

I would like to say Emily Hale has been highly professional yet courteous and extremely supportive and reassuring throughout my involvement with her for the purchase of our property. She was always on the other end of the line to answer my queries and promptly acted on our matters. Her service throughout was exceptional and I would like to say a huge thank you to Emily Hale.

Do not use for Will or Trust

They did not look into the specifics of the property they put in trust in my mothers will. They also gave their trustee position to another form of solicitors picked by my stepfather after my mothers death. This allowed the property in the trust to be sold and our inheritance is now diminished significantly!

They were excellent. Totally professional throughout the process which in our case was a short timescale due to stamp duty government benefits scheme.
