A lack of respect as Executors
This week I attended the funeral of my cousin Jill in Milford Haven. I was the only mourner at the service. Jill lived alone and had lost touch with family and friends after moving back to Wales many years ago. She lived alone and appointed this firm as the executors of her will, leaving her estate to charity. I was concerned to let as many people as possible knpw about her passing. She was a kind and generous person who would have touched the lives of all who knew her. I had no access however to her papers etc to trace any friends and neighbours to alert them the funeral. Hains and Lewis, which did have access to her address book etc, repeatedly refused to engage with me in any effort to find them, ignoring my requests. The most it would do was publish a notice in the local newsapper. So I was the only person there to say oodbye. On the day of the funeral I received a letter insisting that it had met its legal obligations as Executors. Perhaps this is so But what a cold, callous response. Whatever happened to moral responsobility and respect for the deceased and their relatives?
