Undisclosed conflict of interest in a safeguarding-related criminal ca
Renshaw Derrick acted as my criminal defence solicitors in a case involving serious safeguarding concerns relating to my daughter.
What they failed to disclose — and what I only discovered much later — is that the same firm had previously represented my wife, the complainant, during a police interview concerning child abuse allegations.
This is a clear and serious conflict of interest.
It should have been disclosed from the outset. Instead, I was left unaware that the firm advising me had already represented the other party — in a case that was directly relevant to the allegations I was now facing.
They failed to:
• Disclose the prior representation
• Flag the ethical and procedural conflict
• Protect my right to independent and unbiased legal advice
This was not a paperwork oversight.
This was a failure of duty, ethics, and professional integrity — in a case with life-altering consequences.
I am now pursuing formal complaints and legal action.
This firm should not be trusted with criminal defence work — especially not where safeguarding and conflict checks are vital.
