Afshan qualified as a solicitor in 2012 and joined Richard Nelson LLP in 2024 as a senior solicitor in the professional discipline and regulatory team. She specialises in defending professionals facing fitness to practise investigations, with a particular focus on accountancy and healthcare professionals. Afshan brings years of experience and a unique skill set. Prior to joining us, Afshan served as an interim head of regulation at the British Psychoanalytic Council, where she managed fitness to practise concerns from initial enquiry through to completion. During her tenure, she was also a member of the senior leadership team. Afshan has extensive experience as a case presenter at the Association for Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), where she regularly prepared and presented cases before various Committees, including the Interim Order, Admissions and Licensing, Disciplinary, Health and Appeal Committees. She also worked in the professional conduct department at the Bar Standards Board. Additionally, Afshan has a background in criminal defence, having worked as a solicitor with police station accreditation. She regularly defended clients at the police station and magistrate’s court. Afshan is a member of both the Law Society and the Association of Regulatory and Disciplinary Lawyers (ARDL).
