I am a Trainee Solicitor in the Family and Childcare department where I initially began as a caseworker in June 2022. I have previously worked as a Childcare Paralegal for Luton Borough Council in 2019 and as a Locum Childcare Paralegal for Bedford Borough Council from September 2020 until May 2022. I have over 5 years’ experience working in this area of law and have experience in Family, Private Children Law and Public Children law. My experience within the Public sector involves , but was not limited to, liaising with professional clients i.e. social workers, teachers and health professionals regarding their evidence , drafting initial thresholds , attending witnesses and drafting their statements, assisting in making Children Act applications , collating supporting evidence , handling a caseload of s.7 and s.37 reports submitted within private law proceedings, liaising with Police officers with regards to Annex C disclosure requests as well as much more. I have also worked in the private sector as a Staff Paralegal with the managing partner. My work here consisted of conducting casework within Care proceedings, Private Children Law applications and assisting on cases whereby the firm was representing the Guardian. Since working at Duncan Lewis I have had the opportunity to build on my experience and have assisted in representing and providing advice to parents in both public and private children matters. I have also attended a vast amount of training to increase my practical knowledge, which has been beneficial in ensuring that I am kept up to date with new developments in this area of law. The majority of work I have undertaken has been funded by Legal aid, however, I have also assisted on cases which were privately funded. I enjoy the sector I am working in and hope to continue with my professional development whilst being here at Duncan Lewis.
