Walking through the door at the Bristol centre offices of Barcan-Kirby I was cheerfully greeted and felt immediately welcome and relaxed.
The initial meeting with James Bell came with no time pressure for me to give background detail and fully explain why I was seeking legal advice. After this first meeting I felt relief knowing the possible ways forward and the likely outcome of any action to be taken.
As a result I better understood my situation and learned how to safeguard against it happening again in the future.
The costs of research, preparation, litigation and options were fully detailed.
The advice offered and action taken made my decision making more straightforward. It was an enlightening experience which I much appreciated.

The reason for contacting a new firm of solicitors was to ask for an opinion on the course of action taken by my mother's solicitors, as I have the LPA for her. It was difficult to convey the details without entering into a time consuming exercise and therefore a costly one! However, an opinion was eventually given and I was satisfied with the outcome, but only after I had to change solicitors after a wait due to the fact that the first contact was on leave etc. Trying to contact the solicitor to ask a final question, took ages.

James did a good job and I am satisfied with the legal side of my dealings with BC. When I booked in to visit the office in Queen Square I was told that a parking space would be reserved for me. What I was not told was that owing to road closures, it was not possible to get to Queen Square in my car. This resulted in me having to park a long way from the office and I got soaked with rain walking to the office. When I asked the receptionist about the road closures she said that yes, the road had been closed for quite some time. How difficult would it have been for someone to tell me?

Residential Conveyancing
During 2022, I was dealing (as Executor) with the sale of my late parents' house. Having engaged Purplebricks as the Estate Agent, I was somewhat obliged to also utilise one of their panel solicitors, to handle the conveyancing.
Unfortunately, the process turned out to be too complex for said panel solicitor; due to an error when the house was built, the garage was not correctly registered with the Land Registry. After dithering for a couple of months, the panel solicitor informed me in November 2022 that they were unable to continue, and effectively dis-instructed themselves.
Meanwhile, my buyer informed me that she had a deadline, with her mortgage offer expiring in February 2023. Fear spread that the sale would fall through, unless swift action was taken.
Enter Barcan & Kirby (who had previously managed my parents' legal affairs).
Firstly, I dealt with James Bell, in their Litigation Team. He wasted no time in establishing that that the garage was registered with a company who had taken over the original builders. He subsequently arranged for the title of the garage to be transferred, in order to remove this blockage on the sale.
Secondly, I dealt with Asha North, in the Thornbury Conveyancing Team. Asha was aware of the deadline that she was working to, and efficiently ensured that the sale was successfully completed with a week to spare before the buyer's mortgage offer expired.
I am pleased to say that the sale has now been completed, and both the buyer and myself are overjoyed that Barcan & Kirby literally saved the day.

Commercial Property
I found your service helpful and well informed, but also not really focused on my particular case. On several occasions I sent you detailed notes - - dates, details of correspondence, etc., and you sent me back advice that missed some of the point I had raised. I then had to repeat the information I had sent you. This wasted my time and your time, and I was not happy to pay for additional time when you had overlooked details I had already sent you.
