Salima Mawji is a specialist Education Lawyer with over 20 years experience in the field. Salima’s specialism is Further and Higher Education Law. From academic appeals to disciplinary issues, sexual misconduct allegations to challenges to fee status, fitness to practice to PhD issues, Salima has assisted many students in securing their rights in the education sector. Salima’s approach is to focus on an amicable and mediated settlement, where both parties find a mutually acceptable compromise. Litigation is an expensive process and with the change in the costs regime it will only become harder to bring cases. Salima has achieved many settlements for her clients and is passionate about enforcing student’s rights. Educated at Cheltenham Ladies College, the University of Reading and the College of Law (now the University of Law), Salima went on to qualify as a solicitor in 2001. She became Head of the Education Department a year after qualification and then set up her own boutique Education Law practice, Match Solicitors, in Partnership with another lawyer. Match Solicitors went on to be named Leaders in the Field and ranked 1 in both Chambers & Partners and Legal 500 in 2017 with Salima being named an expert in Further & Higher Education Law. In 2023 Salima has been named an expert in Chambers & Partners and ranked in Legal 500 as part of IBB’s Education Team. Salima has been interviewed by almost all the national media outlets including newspapers, television and radio on her thoughts around Education Law issues arising at universities and/or colleges. Salima then sold the Match Solicitors brand in 2018 and joined IBB Law as a Consultant in 2020 and built the Department from scratch. Salima now brings her expertise to NBB Law as a Consultant to advise and assist in building an excellent Education Team for the Firm. As a volunteer in the Ismaili Community, Salima has served as the legal counsel to His Highness the Aga Khan’s National Council in the United Kingdom between 2013 and 2017. Salima enjoys reading, writing and spending time with her little dog Marley.
