Her tenacious approach proved successful in a claim for childhood abuse which had been rejected twice by the CICA due to a lack of police evidence. She took the case to the First Tier Tribunal, making the case and supplied sufficient argument to the panel as to why the claim should be allowed; in the absence of a police report. The appeal was successful and the applicant’s claim was allowed. This is one of many cases where Stacey’s compassion and professionalism has led to the CICA’s original decision being overturned for a more favourable outcome, based on the evidence and case she has put forward on behalf of her clients. Stacey has a real passion for her work and shows empathy and understanding to those who have been through the most difficult of times. She says “Sometimes, it seems as though I am the first person who has truly listened. Successfully claiming compensation for those who feel they have been failed by other services can feel like a form of Justice for them. Whilst the compensation will never take away a persons suffering, seeing this improve people’s life for the future is why I love what I do”. Despite the application appearing easily accessible to most, Stacey explains that “all is not what it seems” when going into the process. The scheme can be difficult to navigate particularly for those whose cases may be complex, either in terms of the CICA’s strict timescales or for those suffering with their mental health as a result of their injuries. She advises “It really does help to have someone who knows what they’re up against, fighting your corner. Of course, everyone is bound by the terms of the scheme, but knowing the scheme in its entirety gives you that upper hand”.
