SRA ID: 315303
Helen is a highly experienced and passionate elderly client specialist having worked in this area of law since she qualified in 2006. Her work includes helping clients prepare for the future by preparation of wills, lasting powers of attorney, estate planning and advice on nursing home fees. Alongside this Helen assists clients to deal with matters when someone has passed away including applications to the probate registry, dealing with will trusts and advising on the appropriate action to be taken. Helen has particular expertise in Court of Protection work having been part of a small cohort of solicitors who were invited to take part in the pilot scheme for the current online system for property and affairs applications. Helen is equally comfortable dealing with complex applications to the Court of Protection for Statutory Wills or for applications for gifting/IHT planning. Helen has extensive experience of acting as a Professional Attorney or Deputy for clients who don’t have family members who can carry out this role for them. When acting in this capacity she will deal with all matters on their behalf, ranging from dealing with their investments and properties, ensuring they are receiving benefits, to rehousing their cats! Helen is compassionate and warm hearted. She takes care to put her clients at ease and is professional and approachable. Her client’s needs always remain the focus of her work. Helen is a “dementia friend” and has undertaken specialise training on dementia. Her expertise in dealing with clients who lack capacity together with her profound understanding of their needs both emotionally and physically means her clients benefit hugely from her advice. Helen is a full member of Solicitors for the Elderly and STEP (the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners). Prior to joining VC LAW in January 2023 Helen headed up the court of protection team at a leading Liverpool law firm who were a preferred provider of Court of Protection work for the local authority. Helen has lived in Southport since childhood and worked in Merseyside the whole of her professional life. Outside of work Helen is proud to be a trustee for Sefton Advocacy Centre and is kept busy by her family, particularly her young daughter.
