Good work!
I don't often make use of solicitors' services so when I do it is important that the whole process is made as straightforward and hassle-free as possible. Fairstep ticked the boxes in this regard and thanks to Jasmin and Sam for all their work. There was one issue with the wrong documentation being sent out but this was quickly rectified so not a big issue.

Efficiency and value for money.
I have used Fairstep for Conveyancing and Probate recently and in both cases they have been extremely efficient, informative and pleasant to deal with.
They were recommended to me and I in turn have recommended them to friends and neighbours and shall continue to do so.
Their fees are also remarkably less than other solicitors.
It has been a pleasure to use them despite perhaps being in difficult times.

Basic mistake added an extra year onto getting probate
Losing a loved one is stressful at the best of times and we used Fairstep to try and make things less stressful. However they failed to check all the paperwork I provided and as a result applied for probate incorrectly, which wasn’t discovered until after probate was granted. As a result we had to wait an additional year before things were resolved with the probate office. Fairstep were not proactive in contacting the probate office - I had to continuously ask them to chase and Fairstep were really bad at explaining what would happen in terms of timescales at the probate office and how things would happen. When the probate office made mistakes I had to tell Fairstep to make a complaint - they showed no initiative in challenging or questioning what was happening.
Although fairstep admitted the mistake they made at the end, we didn’t get any form of apology. Then to top things off when the estate was finally ready to be distributed, I had to point out that they had failed to pass on interest they had gained from holding the money from the estate for a year - something they are obliged to do under SRA rules. The interest wasn’t an insignificant amount and I dread to think what would have happened if I hadn’t spotted it. We were left stressed and lacking in confidence that any work they had done was correct. Although they didn’t charge us for the additional work needed to reapply for probate, we were charged for the original work, even though they didn’t do their job properly. We were so upset, stressed and fed up we paid just to bring the situation to an end. I would NEVER use the firm again and have taken additional work such as writing a will and conveyancing to other firms.
