My father died ,we had house to sell and his will to be sorted out, Michael gave me an appointment to see him and gave me all the advice and approx cost were he could ,I signed the papers and that was that , he and Katie his secretary had it all sorted out for me , forms were sent to me sign here labels , I was well happy

Excellent service
Dunn and baker , specifically Michael Micklethwait, helped with probate and the estate of a family member , he handled complicated family matters and communications with great professionalism , always ensuring the estates interests were looked after , I believe that the knowledge and advice provided saved the estate from undue costs and helped defuse situations that arose, would highly recommend this firm and Michael, as such I decided to further use Dunn and baker for another matter as I was so pleased with the handling of the estate .

Michael Micklethwait
Michael was charming and patient with a great sense of humour which I found helpful when dealing with something like making a will. He explained every detail in full but in "non lawyer speak" which was easy to comprehend and follow. I was very impressed with his thoroughness in leaving nothing to chance, and he asked many questions that I had not thought of. He answered all my questions expertly which was very impressive - whatever I asked, Michael came back with an instant answer, obviously knowing his trade to the finest degree. I cannot be more happy with the help and advice I received.

Probate handled efficiently
Losing your last surviving parent is a tough time for anyone without the added worry about dealing with banks, utilities and other administrative matters.
Michael handled my Mum’s affairs very well - both while she was alive and after her sad passing.
I would have no hesitation in using him again or recommending his services.

Professional and Courteous
Dunn & Baker is a great example of a successful local business that knows its clients, its work, and its region well. And Michael provides a friendly local touch that tends to be missing at large urban law firms.
Michael guided my brother and I through the administration our mum's estate with great professionalism. He kept us apprised of developments and communicated in a very courteous manner. However, although most procedures were clearly explained, it would have been helpful to know at the outset that beneficiaries need to wait six months from the grant of probate for monies to be disbursed. This was not a major issue but full disclosure about important details should be a priority.
Billing and accounting were generally done in a detailed and transparent manner. That said, I do not have previous experience of probate legal fees with which to compare Dunn & Baker's costs. Our mum's estate was not complex--only a few bank accounts and no property or complex investments--and the fees were close to £4000. This was at the higher end of the quote that we received, which was £2000-4000.
Finally, I should say that Dunn & Baker continued to operate a professional service despite the constraints imposed by the pandemic. Our relatively simple case took almost a year to complete but this was not due to any inefficiency at the firm. Where delays occurred, these were the result of tardiness on the part of third parties such as banks and courts, and not due to any oversight on Michael's part. Given the difficult circumstances, I commend Michael and the firm for seeing things through to the finish.
I would recommend Dunn & Baker to anyone in the Cullompton or Exeter area. They are experienced, courteous, and professional. At a time when small and local businesses are struggling, it is heartening to see one that is thriving.
