No refund of mother's money
Like the previous reviewer we were with Gotelee. Our mother had her power of attorney done by Laura Parker and when 6 months later our mother died we stayed with Laura to do the grant of probate, and Christina Mulhearn doing the conveyancing on a property my mother owned. After mezzle took over the conveyancing we had to change our solicitors because mezzle never answered their questions and the buyers solicitors refused to deal with them so we nearly lost the sale. There was money, (nearly £12,000) left in the clients account to pay for outstanding bills and where any rebates were paid in to.
In November, Mezzle took over Gotelee, and we were told a solicitor named Alex Shah was taking mums case over, and after the money from the sale came through he would be settling mums accounts and dividing the money between my brother and me.
After a couple of months and no news we decided to contact Mezzle only to find out that Alex Shah had left!! In our mother's file was her will, my stepfathers will, grant of probate and the deeds of the property we were selling. We made several calls but decided the best way to deal with this was to visit the Ipswich office personally, without an appointment. We met a girl called Freya, who admitted that the take over hadn't gone as smoothly as they'd hoped! We were told that the wills were with Rightlegal, and I could ring them to get the wills back, and she would retrieve the file and get the rest of the paperwork sent to us. Great we thought!
I rand Rightlegal that afternoon and they have never had mums will, so couldn't send it out. Mezzle have now admitted that the file with the wills and grant of probate have been 'mislaid'.
I was given Tim Humpage's name and number by the SRA. I spoke to him and he said that our treatment had been appalling and he would get back to me later that week. No that never happened.
After numerous calls emails and texts, all unanswered, I was getting desperate because no one seems to take this seriously. My brother then rang Tim Humpage and got through ( different number from me). He promised that the money in my account by Friday 26/3/25. My brother also told Mr Humpage that we have 2 unpaid tax bills, both sent to Gotelee, but obviously ignored by Mezzle, and we have unpaid fines on them, he was told that as pensioners we do not have the funds to pay them, because Mezzle is sitting on £12,000 of our mothers money.
Of course now our numbers are registered with them neither of us get an answer.
I must ring etc at least 3 times a week, including head office, and never get an answer.
My question is when you have a complaint about the compliance officer who do you complain to? I really think this firm is not what it seems and that it takes your money, uses it, but will not pay you your own money back. You only use solicitors when you need legal help, as in the death of a loved one, so you are in an emotional state and they just use this against you, at your most vulnerable time.
This could be finalised so easily but they have made me go to the ombudsman.
Do not use this company!
