Giorgio Strumia

SRA ID: 7002017
I am a Solicitor in the Public and Immigration Law Department at Duncan Lewis, specialising in international protection and human rights. I joined the firm in February 2018 and work within James Packer’s team. I routinely represent asylum seekers, victims of human trafficking and individuals facing deportation in international protection and human rights claims, and on associated appeals to tribunals and courts. My practice encompasses a wide variety of judicial reviews and civil claims upholding the human rights and civil liberties of migrants within the UK asylum system. I contribute to refugee-status decision-making processes in Italy, advise the Ministry of the Interior on the merits of individual protection claims, and exercise voting rights on the UNHCR’s behalf within Rome’s territorial commissions for the recognition of international protection. I have a strong track record of thoroughly prepared claims, successful outcomes in complex appeals and significant experience representing vulnerable individuals. I work in close partnership with Italian officials to ensure careful and objective assessment of migrants’ eligibility for international protection. I also have a keen interest in pro bono work. Until recently, I volunteered with the Joel Nafuma Refugee Center by providing advice and support to address the urgent needs of asylum seekers arriving in Rome and the needs of refugees seeking to settle in the city. I have also volunteered with the National Centre for Domestic Violence, in Bristol. Prior to my legal career, I was a qualified paramedic within the Italian Red Cross and a volunteer of the Italian ambulance service, in Milan. Languages: native Italian and elementary Spanish and French.
