Christine Cruz
Caseworker
I am a Caseworker in the Action Against Public Authorities department. My aim is to hold public authorities accountable to the law. In my role, I assist a team of solicitors, trainees and other caseworkers in the day-to-day progression of casework including inquests/inquiries, actions against the state, and actions against the police. I am committed to achieving justice for clients who are victimised by public authorities who abuse their power. I handle a range of cases including false imprisonment, assault and battery, misfeasance and professional negligence claims. I also assist in bringing claims for breaches of human rights legislation against the state and the police. I am also involved in providing assistance to bereaved persons in inquest proceedings. In 2020, I completed LLB Law at Westminster Law School where I gained foundational legal knowledge. During this time, I volunteered as a student advisor at the law clinic to advise on Immigration law. This involved helping the public to understand their rights with thorough legal research. I received a Volunteering Award for this role. I also completed the Legal Practice Course at BPP University in 2022 and was voted as a student representative, which involved leading my group and liaising with the department with any issues or concerns that may arise. I am originally from the Philippines and, as such, I am fluent in Tagalog.
