As a Solicitor in the South Essex Wills Trust and Probate team, I handle estate planning, will drafting, trusts, and advice on lasting powers of attorney. For executors, I handle the administration of estates and probate to ensure that everything is dealt with effectively. My journey to becoming a Solicitor started with my enjoyment of studying law at College (A-Level). I was fascinated by all the different types of case law. My teacher would often speak fondly of her experiences at university, and I knew from that time that I wanted to do the same. I studied law by the coast in Bournemouth whist undertaking my first legal experience in a conveyancing team at a firm in Bournemouth. After completing my degree, I moved back to Essex, where I was brought up and trained in a regional firm in Chelmsford. I enjoyed working in the Wills and Probate team as one of my seats and qualified in this area. Since then, I have practised locally in Essex. Regarding wills, I enjoy building a rapport with clients (and their families) when protecting their assets and ensuring that their affairs are in order for future generations. Assisting with probate I also find rewarding as I am helping bereaved clients at a time of need. I aim to make my clients feel at ease by providing them with clear, practical, and easy to understand advice. My interests include being outdoors with long country walks or bike rides. I also love to travel, watch theatre shows and live music performances.

Excellent service
I have been dealing with Birkett Long for eleven years since the passing of my Mum. BL held my Mum's will and were helpful and courteous in passing the Will to us, her family. Their efficiency and compassion steered me towards using Birkett Long when making my own original and revised Wills. For my latest Will, I have dealt with Natalie who is extremely knowledgeable and has produced my latest Will within a very reasonable amount of time. Natalie explains everything very clearly, is very easy to approach with any queries/questions and always replies in a prompt and efficient manner. I really do appreciate the excellent service provided by Natalie and by Birkett Long

My personal journey with Birkett Long Solicitors
On January 8th 2024 my beautiful wife,Kathryn, of nearly 50 years of marriage died, on that day my life and equally the life's of our son and three daughters, emotionally changed and we were all challenged by grief. As a family, to describe the loss of Kathryn as devastating, would be an understatement. We needed legal guidance, support and compassion which subsequently we attained in spades from Birkett Long Solicitors.
Initially, through communicating with a professional and personal friend of our family. Alan Massenhove, who attended Kathryn's funeral, he facilitated our introduction to lawyers, Natalie Smith and Sophie Partridge.
Natalie dealt with, efficiently, speedily and with compassion, the amendment of my now personal Will and attaining Powers of Attorney for my son and eldest daughter in respect of my own finances and health. Natalie's actions created a veil of comfort and reassurance to us as a family as we now navigate our ongoing life's together.
Then taking on the critical role of 'Tail end Charlie,' was Sophie Partridge who dealt with the selling of our family home of 42years and the purchase of a flat for myself, overlooking Central Park, Chelmsford.
The key word that describes Sophie is tenacious but supported by caring, reassuring and listening skills that supported me personally and our children through this darkest period of our life's.
As a family we cannot emphasis enough how Sophie has journeyed with us these past several months, on an emotional roller-coaster but always remaining calm, approachable and strong.
We must never forget or underplay that our inter-personal skills carry equal weight to our professional qualifications, skills and abilities and this was clearly displayed by Alan, Natalie and Sophie.
On behalf of all my family I want to sincerely thank you Alan, Natalie and Sophie for your respective roles in our family life's since January 8th 2024, when Kathryn died.
"In our hearts she will always stay loved and remembered every day, may her soul and all the souls of the faithfully departed Rest in Peace."
Thank you
