Graeme Thomson
Solicitor - Partner
I qualified as a solicitor in 2003 and joined Balfour+Manson in 2018, becoming a partner in 2021. I studied at the University of Edinburgh and, but for a year’s detour to Australia (working for a two large legal firms and a Royal Commission), have worked in Edinburgh ever since. Initially specialising in residential property, I made the move over to private client in 2004. Immediately prior to joining Balfour+Manson I was the head of the private client team at a small family-run law firm. As a Private Client solicitor I deal with a variety of issues all of which can, and in some cases certainly will, affect private individuals. I advise clients in relation to succession planning, including Inheritance Tax issues and the drafting of Wills; the granting and operation of Powers of Attorney; the administration of executry estates; and the creation and running of trusts.

Complicated family will
Graeme Thomson took over my father's will following a departing partner and was always helpful, timely and supportive.
I appreciated his speed of replying to emails and his stamina in keeping going when it became very drawn out through no fault of his.
I am pretty sure he undercharged us in terms of hours worked and all in all was just what I would want from a family lawyer.

Helpful guidance through drawing up a will, including setting up a trust
I needed to make a will, including provision for one of my children, who is an with incapacity. This isn't completely straightforward, and Graeme Thomson guided me patiently through it, answering all my questions and keeping on the case even when I was very slow with my responses. Would recommend!
