I am a Director of Immigration with Duncan Lewis Solicitors and I have a broad practice across all areas of private and publicly funded (legal aid) immigration, asylum and public law matters. I have extensive experience in representing clients in detained and port removal cases, EEA applications, citizenship and naturalisation and immigration or civil liberties related judicial review claimant cases. I regularly challenge decisions by judicial review to the High Court in matters of: Detained and port removal cases EEA applications Naturalisation Unaccompanied asylum seeking children matters Regarding judicial review, I have extensive experience in: Delay Age assessment challenges Dublin III removals Unlawful detention cases I supervise a team of solicitors, trainees and caseworkers and I conduct my own advocacy at the First-tier and Upper Tier Tribunals of the Immigration Asylum Chamber. I am accredited by the Law Society under the Immigration and Asylum Accreditation Scheme as a Level 2 Senior Caseworker and Supervisor and I am DBS Enhanced; these qualifications enable me to personally represent vulnerable clients such as those detained under immigration powers, victims of torture, rape, PTSD and unaccompanied asylum seeking children. I also deal with spouse and unmarried partner applications and applications outside the Immigration Rules. I have significant knowledge of Hungarian extradition and detention proceedings as well as Hungarian nationality and immigration law. I successfully prevented the removal of a Roma gypsy client who was wanted by three county courts in Hungary for criminal proceedings. I liaised with the UK’s National Crime Agency (NCA) and the Hungarian Police Centre for International Co-operation in terms of obtaining the European Arrest Warrants which were lodged in Hungary. Following this I then lodged a judicial review application in the High Court and the Secretary of State conceded the matter. I have also registered and enforced Hungarian county court judgments in the Queen’s Bench Division at the High Court under European Enforcement Orders, and successfully enforced debt orders in the County Court for Hungarian clients through Attachment of Earnings and Third Party Debt orders. I am committed to tenaciously protecting the human rights of the most vulnerable. In 2015, I successfully lead Duncan Lewis’ Hungarian fact finding mission. We closely worked with a number of Hungary based NGOs, social workers, lawyers and detainees. We obtained a thorough and comprehensive insight into the detention regime of the Hungarian Government and the information and documents that we had gathered became an invaluable asset in the company’s subsequent Hungarian human rights based judicial review cases. I am regularly instructed by various UK based media platforms to assist with documentaries, radio interviews or comments. In 2017, I assisted with the Channel 4 TV programme, Dispatches – ‘How to get a Passport’. In May 2018, I appeared on ITV News at 10 to discuss the hostile environment regarding asylum seekers in general and the delay that asylum-seekers faced in the UK regarding the outcome of their claim. I have been quoted by the Independent newspaper regarding unlawful border searches and the treatment of vulnerable clients by the Home Office. I speak English, Hungarian, German, and basic French.
