We hired Stephen Inglis at Claremont Litigation based on a recommendation from a colleague. We had concluded that we needed to issue a winding up petition against a customer who had taken our goods and services and having done so, had stopped paying our invoices.

It was fair to say I was incensed by my own perception of the injustice of our situation and of our client’s dishonesty and treatment of us. I provided Stephen with ‘boat loads’ of documentary evidence (and emotion) in support of our position. Stephen incisively cut through this to focus on the salient points and legal argument.

Along the way, Stephen worked closely with Counsel and kept us informed at all stages. He demonstrated his legal acumen, experience and firm handling of the case by skilfully manoeuvring our customer’s Solicitor into a disputed debt hearing, when they had tried to bring an injunction against us to stop us advertising our petition. Even though the allegations of the customer were false and unsubstantiated, Stephen repeatedly urged us not to allow ourselves to be drawn into a dispute which is what the customer wanted.

The way our evidence was presented by Stephen along with Counsel’s legal argument resulted in the judge finding in our favour on all counts. The subsequent recovery of all our money, interest, compensation and award of all our legal costs was hard fought for, but fairly won.

From the outset, Stephen listened to our case and steered us along a path to success first making strides to settle amicably before further action. When the client refused our reasonable offers to settle and hired a Solicitor to take injunctive action, Stephen took that in his stride and gave us confidence in him. Our customer fought us each step of the way. We were David, they were Goliath.

Without Stephen to steer us through an unfamiliar and, for most reasonable people, an unpleasant process they would rather avoid, and without his encouragement to “Put our trust in the process,” we may have given-up the fight to obtain justice. We are enormously grateful for his efforts.

As a footnote, I went back to read the Claremont Litigation website and was struck by how the descriptions on it rang 100% true. The service and the experience Stephen delivered was ‘exactly what it said on the tin.’

Steve helped me out in what was a fairly complex litigation around the termination of an employment contract, with a linked shareholding which has an international pension fund element to consider. He showed deep technical knowledge, and balanced this perfectly with commercial pragmatism, at the end achieving a settlement that was many times more than the original offer from the other side, whilst gaining concessions around structuring for tax efficiency that they had claimed were simply not possible. I was kept informed at all times, and Steve responded quickly, clearly and effectively on all issues. He also wasn't just running the clock, and often showed that "less is more" and that it wasn't necessary to go into voluminous detail every time, which other firms have done, to build fees up.
