Thomas was outstanding in communicating in a timely manner with both school and the LA. The LA named school without due consideration of the use of resources or impact on others; Thomas clearly outlined this and as a result, the decision was changed. Professional service from beginning to end.

Exceptional SEND meeting support with the LA
We cannot recommend Thomas and the team at Birkett Long highly enough. We commissioned Thomas to support us with a meeting between us and our LA that we had arranged. We had already submitted an EHCP contents appeal but the tribunal hearing was a year away and we wanted to try and narrow down the areas in dispute earlier and in particular the placement named in section I of our daughters EHCP.
Our daughter was not able to attend the named mainstream school on a regular basis and it was clear the named school was not suitable. The LA however until this meeting was sticking with the position that current mainstream was suitable. We had a time limited offer for a non approved section 41 independent setting and asked Thomas if he could support at the meeting to try and gain LA agreement to name this placement and not wait a year for the tribunal to decide. Following the meeting the LA agreed to name our preference of setting in section I.
Thomas was exceptional throughout the entire process. From confirming costs at the start, taking instructions before the meeting, through the meeting itself and afterwards. He was clear and upfront about pricing, with no hidden surprises, which gave us full confidence in the investment we were making. His communication was always quick, professional, and reassuring, and he explained every step of the process in a way that was easy to understand. Thomas’s professionalism and expertise meant the LA had to take him seriously. They simply couldn’t rely on their usual excuses or attempts to delay matters—he held them to account. For us, it meant we could relax and let Thomas take over the hard work of arguing our case for us, knowing we were in the best possible hands.
We’ve also worked with Kimberley at Birkett Long in the past, and she was equally fantastic. The team are knowledgeable, approachable, and exceptionally skilled.
Gaining the agreement for parental preference for our daughter will transform her future, and we are so grateful to Thomas and the team. This was absolutely worth the investment, and we wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Birkett Long to anyone navigating the SEND system. Thank you!

Absolutely fantastic service from Thomas and Madeleine
Thomas completed a pre-action protocol letter for me, on behalf of my son whose EHCP process had gone beyond legal timescales. It had the desired effect and we were quickly in receipt of my son’s EHCP. Madeleine then completed a review of the EHCP, helped me with the amendments needed and prepared an excellent report. Brilliant service, very quick and responsive. I highly recommend.
