I believe it’s important to understand my client’s needs and objectives in order to provide clear, practical advice. I always endeavour to understand the whole picture to provide my clients with tailored advice. I am based in our Colchester office and am available for a free 15-minute chat over the phone on 01206 217360. I enjoy meeting with clients and helping them through difficult situations, particularly following a bereavement. Work in the Wills, Trusts and Probate team is varied and I enjoy identifying the issues and coming up with potential solutions and options available to my clients. My work involves preparing wills, trusts, and probate applications, administering estates, preparing and registering lasting powers of attorney, the registration of enduring powers of attorney, and tax and estate planning. I obtained a History degree from Exeter University before converting to law to complete the Graduate Diploma in Law and going on to obtain a Law degree. I trained at a law firm based in their Bishop’s Stortford and Cambridge offices, qualifying as a solicitor in September 2014. Throughout my training contract, I also gained experience in rural, commercial property and employment law. I am a Dementia Friend and provide advice and guidance to elderly clients and their families, also advising clients requiring estate and succession planning, in particular relating to business assets. In my free time I enjoy reading, shopping, eating out and spending time with my friends, family and my Dachshund, called Simon!

Refreshing Experience
Had some initial concerns that I could have saved some costs by going to a smaller Law firm.
However I soon became very confident that the choice would be very worthwhile. The initial meeting
was conducted in a pleasant, understanding and amenable manner and above all very friendly. The content and details of the will did become more involved than expected and this resulted in several email conversations. The standard cost was around £200 more than expected but I am very happy with the quality of the service provided.

The estate of my late wife and my own Will
Joanna has acted for our family for a number of years, and is both very professional in her dealings with us, as well as being very personable and approachable at all times. On this matter, having lost my wife in April this year, Joanna immediately understood what was required for my wife’s estate, and for me and my daughter, and handled everything with care and attention. Anything she required was dealt with kindly and effectively.

Probate and Deed Of Variation advice and guidance
Joanna assisted in arranging the Grant of Probate and securing a Deed of Variation to my Mothers will.
This was so I could pass the proceeds directly to my Children, without having to hope I survived during the 7 year rule and the associated tax implications if I didnt !
Previously I had never heard of a Deed of Variation.
All went extremely smoothly.

Joanna Tollworthy
My whole experience with Joanna was excellent from beginning to end. She was very professional and dealt with our family requirements in a very timely fashion. She is a clear communicator and a good listener. She was wonderful when meeting with my elderly mother and put her completely at ease.

Great personal tailored service
Joanne was very patient with my chatting on about my situation, together we unscrambled the mess that it was.
