I am a member of the Childcare and Family team.
I have worked almost exclusively in complex care proceedings and non-accidental injury for many years; I joined Wollens in February 2012 and continue to focus my work on the representation of parents.
I act for parents and carers within these complex proceedings which involve allegations of physical abuse such as shaken baby syndrome, fractures, bruises, factitious illness, etc. I work with clients all over the country (from Cornwall to Newcastle) and represent people in all courts including the County Court, High Court, Court of Appeal and Supreme Court. I am a member of the Law Society’s specialist Children’s Panel which means I am accredited to represent children (often via a guardian).
Most of my work is legally aided (parents within care proceedings are automatically entitled to full legal aid).
As a result of the amount of NAI work I undertake, I have considerable experience in the area and have formed excellent working relationships both with barristers also specialising in this line of work and with medical experts who undertake reports for such cases. Subsequently, I have had much success in securing a child’s return to their parents’ care.

Rachel helped guide me through one of the most traumatic events a parent can go through with respect, urgency and empathy. Absolute hero

Rachel and Team Made it Bearable!!
Rachel and her team were absolute lifesavers during my family court proceedings. From the get-go, they made the complex legal stuff easy to understand and were super proactive.
The proceedings were lengthy, but Rachel's constant support and her team's dedication kept me sane. They treated me like more than just a case – it felt like having friends by my side.

The best around
We have unfortunately had the recent experience of family court and being accused of a non accidental injury on our baby girl. With Rachel fighting our corner, she appointed the best barrister and KC around. It's the most difficult experience ever to encounter when someone accuses you of hurting your own child, however it was always reassuring that Rachel was there to answer questions and provide reassurance when there was little to find throughout our 7 month ordeal. We finally got there in the end and back together as a family! Please keep fighting for all us parents that have had to go through this torturous process; your work is invaluable!! Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!!

Non accidental injury on 13 month old baby
Rachel Carter and her team where fantastic and very supportive during a very stressful, emotional and challenging time. High level of knowledge regarding the non accidental injury explained clearly and kept up to date every step of the way through a very complicated and confusing process. Over the 13 months the process took on days I was feeling anxious and full of questions Rachel and the team would be quick to respond to emails and phone calls to put my mind at ease. Highly recommend Rachel at Wollens if accused of a non accidental injury.

THANK YOU ISN'T ENOUGH!!!
Not sure what I would have done without Rachel!!! Through her expert knowledge and tenacity she literally saved our family.
I was always impressed with how quick Rachel would respond to my emails (even on a Friday night!) and I would always be left feeling reassured after speaking with her on the phone.
As a family we went through a harrowing process but I was so lucky to have Rachel by my side fighting for us!

I would give a million stars
My son experienced a bleed on the brain, what followed was nigh on two nightmare years of fighting. Without Rachel's professionalism, knowledge and help I do not know how I would have gotten through this. I now have all four of my children back home where they belong and answers to what happened to my darling son. The road is hard, long and terrifying, and sometimes the answer to what happened is a slap in the face, but there is light at the end of the tunnel and Rachel is incredible at getting you through it and getting the answers. Trust the process and trust her, it might not always be easy to hear but her wealth of knowledge and experience is spot on.
Believe in yourself and your innocence, keep fighting and know that you are in the best hands.

Excellent solicitors
Want to say a massive thank you to Rachel Carter and Amelia Smith (who dealt with my case at the time), if it wasn’t for them I don’t think I would of won my case!! Rachel and her team are wonderful, personable, affable and tenacious
Rachel and her paralegals were always available and willing to help us. Rachel not only comes with vast experience of similar cases so always had great advice, she is on the best terms possible with the most experienced KCs and Barristers in the UK.
Without Rachel, we wouldn't have had the Barristers and KCs who ultimately led us to on the path to full exoneration. Rachel was always available us and there was never a bad time to contact her- even when she was on holiday.
She is extremely empathetic and sincere and I always felt in 'safe hands'. I'm so eternally grateful to her and don't think there was anyone else that could have helped us the way she did.
