Solicitor at Wollens

Amelia Smith

Solicitor

I am a Solicitor in the family team. I deal primarily with private legal matters such as divorce, finances, and children disputes. I first started studying law at A-Level in 2013. I then attended Plymouth University from 2015 to 2018 and graduated with an upper second-class honour in Law, Criminology and Criminal Justice Studies. I then went on to study the Legal Practice Course alongside a Masters in law at the University in Law in Bristol from 2018 to 2019. After completing the Legal Practice Course, I worked at local law firms between 2019 and 2021, both within the family team, joining Wollens in July 2021. I started my training contract (two years of work-based qualifications) in October 2022 and completed this to become fully qualified in October 2024. I have, therefore, studied law for over 10 years and practised for 5 years. I have gained a vast amount of experience during this time. Below are some examples of the work I have carried out: Assisting a client in a complex divorce whereby the husband lived in America and would not respond to the divorce paperwork. Representing a client throughout children proceedings whereby they could not agree on who the children live with and how often they spend time with the other parent and extended family. Advising a client on their options when they were faced with their ex-partner not agreeing for them to take their child on holiday. Representing a client throughout court proceedings whereby there had been high levels of domestic violence throughout their relationship. Drafting Consent Orders to reflect the parties not having a right to make any future financial claims against each other upon divorce. Representing a client throughout children proceedings whereby the father had been previously accused of harming their child and then made an application for contact. Advising a client who was being prohibited by their ex-partner from having any contact with their child. Representing a client throughout children proceedings who had been convicted of a serious sexual offence and wanted contact with their children. Representing a client throughout children proceedings whereby they wanted contact with their newborn baby. Representing a client who had been in and out of children proceedings for years with another solicitor.

Child arrangement order

I want to say how happy have been with my solicitor Amelia smith.
She has been fantastic from day one, clear in her communication, very attentive, the case has been somewhat sensitive and complex, and she has been so wonderful at making me feel positive, that we could get a result, and I would be able to see my children again one day, when I thought all hope was lost.
I simply cannot speak more highly of Amelia. I want her manager to read this, because my mental health has been on the floor at times during the court process, and Amelia has helped me in so many ways that she may never know. Her demeanor when we have met has been relaxed and she has filed me with confidence and has re assured me along the way. Amelias speedy responses have blown me away, I've never had to chase her on anything. She is super efficient at her job. I've been amazed, truly, by just how brilliant she has been with everything, and every fine detail. She has not missed a thing, and has kept me up to date at every stage along the way.
Thankyou Amelia, for helping me to see my children again, When I thought it was Impossible, when I was told I wouldn't be by their mother before i came to you. You are a fantastic representative of your firm woolens. It's been my absolute privilege to deal with you,and to get to know you.
I can't thank you enough, for making such a difference not only to my life, by my children's. I will definitely use you again, and recommend this firm to others, for its superb quality.

Rachel and her team in the family department at Wollens put me at ease from the moment I contacted them, instructing solicitors is never nice or easy but Rachel was professional and friendly from the word go!
Rachel and her Paralegal Amelia explained everything clearly, were very knowledgeable and although their work was strictly remote I never felt as though I was missing out on anything, I was kept well informed at each step during our case and everything was explained fully and my thoughts and feelings taken in to consideration at every point. I really felt they pulled out all the stops!
Our case over-ran by 6 months and ended with a fact finding hearing, we were extremely nervous, but Rachel and her chosen Barrister made us feel calm and in control, making sure we understood everything fully throughout. Thankfully our case ended positively and that in part was due to the outstanding work and knowledge of Rachel and her team.
Thank you so much Rachel & Wollens :)
