Paola is an experienced civil court practitioner who has become specialised in personal injury and product liability/medical negligence claims and group proceedings. On a day to day basis, Paola is responsible for advising clients, liaising with Counsel and medical experts dealing predominantly in product liability and medical negligence cases arising from defective medical implants such as PIP implants, Metal on Metal Hips and Mesh claims. Paola is also interested in increasing public awareness of health issues arising from medical implant use and campaigning for better regulation of these devices. As part of this drive, Paola was principal solicitor in the first product liability proof involving a medical implant to be heard in Scotland and which was later appealed to the UK Supreme Court ( Hastings-v-Finsbury Orthopaedics and Stryker UK Limited [2019] CSOH 96) . More recently, and once again in line with her social conscience, she has specialised in Group Proceedings. She is the principal solicitor in the James Finlay (Kenya) Ltd Group Proceedings in which she represents thousands of Tea Pickers in personal injury actions against their Scottish Employers. The judgements issued in this contentious litigation have been instrumental in developing practice in Group Proceedings.
