Louise is our specialist family solicitor based in Essex, representing clients living and/or working in Essex, London and nationwide. Louise’s experience, expertise and commitment to her clients is externally recognised. She is a member of The Law Society’s Family Law Advanced Accreditation Scheme and a Resolution Accredited Specialist in Complex Financial Remedies and Children Law. She has been recommended by the Legal 500 since 2017. A qualified mediator and collaborative lawyer, Louise’s ethos is to protect her clients from the emotional and financial cost of the ‘traditional’ court process. She wholeheartedly endorses arbitration as a private, efficient and flexible alternative to litigation. However; court proceedings are sometimes unavoidable and Louise has extensive experience to draw on to advise and support her clients throughout. Louise knows that any relationship breakdown, particularly if children are involved, is a difficult and stressful time for the whole family. She prides herself on listening to and understanding her clients’ needs, working with them at a pace which is comfortable for them. Louise secures her clients’ future by creating solutions which will work for them in the long-term. She is clear and succinct in her communications, ensuring her clients are kept fully up-to-date with how things are progressing. Louise regularly advises parents, grandparents and other family members in relation to child arrangements, often involving serious safeguarding issues such as parental alienation, drug and alcohol misuse and domestic abuse. She has a particular interest in applications for children to be relocated, whether elsewhere within England and Wales or abroad. This niche specialism has been recognised by the Legal 500, which describes Louise as ‘a pragmatic child relocation specialist’. Louise is very experienced in advising on the financial implications of both entering and ending relationships. She can help protect the assets of high net worth individuals and find practical, positive solutions to help families stabilise their financial positions. As a dedicated member of Resolution, locally and nationally, Louise sits on four of their national committees as well as their local committee in Essex. She is committed to their code of practice and working in a constructive, non-confrontational manner. Louise is often invited to speak at national family law seminars and conferences. Outside work Louise can often be found roaming the Essex countryside with her dog, Lottie. She is an active member of her local community, a pianist and she sings with local choirs. She also enjoys taking part in challenges and events to raise money for charity.

Louise Buttery - unfaltering energy and determination to success.
I really meant what I've said all along. I am so beyond thankful to you and the family law team. I honestly wholeheartedly owe you as this has completely changed and transformed our lives for the better. You have always spoke words of wisdom and have a real sensible mind. I know some people may say it's all part of the job, but this has completely gone above all of that. I was so vulnerable when first reaching out that I didn't know what to do, who to trust or what direction to go in. I am really glad that I listened to you, that you had the time for us and trusted you. You have given such meaningful advice and we honestly wouldn't be in the position we are in today without you. You helped me find my backbone and I would literally trust you with the boys lives. You've considered us so much at such a sensitive time in all of our lives and I will forever speak highly of you to everyone including the boys. They will know about you when they are older and they will sing your name with joy. You will stick with us for a lifetime for a good reason and I will happily take your name to the grave with me.I truly believe that without you, me and the boys would be living a life governed by [ex-partner] and his alcohol - and the court order would've been alot different. I no longer have the prospect of living a lifetime of worry and fear because of you and that is life changing. A 1000s thank you's would never be enough, or even come close. It's so invaluable. The court order overlooks and overshadows everything previous to now. Thank you for always listening to us moan, I know it's not easy for you and you work so hard and have tons of people like me to help, but always know that what you do is honeslty life changing, and for some like us it really is for the better. It really is lovely you are so willing to help people like me, and you just make it look so easy.

Developing and defending a non-molestation order
Louise was absolutely fantastic! Throughout the whole process she explained all the steps and what my options were. She was brilliant at keeping me informed about how the process was going, and remained incredibly calm and empathetic when dealing with a difficult matter. I would highly recommend her to anyone who needs advice on family law matters.

Her professionalism and kindness eased my anxiety about the process
I was in a very difficult place for many reasons due to my situation but I gave FLP a call and from the moment I received a callback from George and then Louise, I was instantly reassured and put at ease. Louise was empathetic and kind towards my situation and helped keep me focused to get a strong evidence led foundation in place. She is very good at maintaining communication with me, resolving any arising issues, and keeping me advised throughout the process. It was a pleasure to work with her and very grateful for her support and help. She knows the law back to front and how to best navigate it all to get a good outcome that is in the best interest of the children. She is a true asset to FLP!

Amazingly professional
Louise has handled an extremely important case for me, having been involved a few years before in my matrimonial case. Louise was superb, took me through the whole process, amazingly professional, knew the law back to front, organised everything, she was extremely calm which in turn calmed me down. The difference between the other side's professionalism and paperwork compared to Louise's was phenomenal, she went above and beyond the call of duty and I would certainly recommend her to anyone who had to go through what I went through, first class all round
