I am a Solicitor in the Residential Real Estate team and I joined the firm in November 2021. I am based in our Colchester office and am available for a free 15-minute chat over the phone. I love what I do! I have always been attracted to property law and I have been told that my love of my job comes across when I am working with clients. I believe that the pleasure I take in my work allows me to build a strong client relationships, and I am always more than happy to answer their queries…big or small. I help clients with residential property sales and purchases, transfers of equity, remortgages and first registrations. I love to work directly with clients, particularly when they are first-time buyers. Buying your first home can be stressful so I try to remove the stress and bring back the excitement! Because I trained in general practice, I was able to experience various areas of the law before deciding on conveyancing, and I know I made the right choice - it can be fast-paced but also extremely rewarding. I read law at Queens University Belfast where I gained my LLB. I also achieved a Diploma in Professional Legal Studies at Queens and was admitted to the Roll of Solicitors in Northern Ireland and, later, to the Roll of Solicitors in England and Wales. My home is split between Essex and Northern Ireland. I enjoy walking in the Mourne Mountains and in Dedham Vale, which in my opinion are both equally beautiful. I love spending time with my family and with my dogs. In fact, I am an avid animal lover - from hens to horses and everything in between!

In April 2024 I had the daunting task of selling a large Victorian house, which suffered from major structural defects. Sarah Murphey was recommended to me because it was thought that I would appreciate not only her professionalism but also her matter of fact, no- nonsense approach to things. This proved to be so. During a long, and at times, complicated sales process, which included Sarah having to give me advice & guidance on unusual property insurance issues, she constantly kept me informed & advised on all relevant matters. There were two abortive sales before a sale was, finally, concluded in February 2025.
During the whole time Sarah went WELL BEYOND what a client might reasonably expect from their solicitor. !! I have no hesitation in recommending her to anyone.

Sale Flat 5 15 Bramah Road - Completion
I was very impressed with the way our sale was handled by Birkett Long particularly as the solicitors on our buyers side were so unimpressive and lacking any urgency.

Conveyancing
Sarah has now represented us on three house conveyancing transactions, and we have found her to be extremely professional throughout.
She has an excellent technical knowledge of the housing market and the legal governance surrounding it. She applies this in a friendly but business-like manner, and we have always had confidence that she will negotiate in our best interests.
Communication has always been timely, with able support from her colleague Rebecca.

Excellent Service on a Challenging Probate Sale

Property Purchase
Sarah Murphy was the solicitor recommended to me and to act for me on a property purchase, Sarah was extremely professional and i was very impressed with her services and diligence. Sarah was so thorough, patient, kind and understanding during my enquires and in explaining things every step of the way, i cannot recommend her highly enough and although i didn’t complete the sale, i will certainly look forward to utilising Sarah’s services again in the future…full marks and thank you so much!

Excellent
Having had the initial sale of our property fall through, Sarah was very supportive and helpful. She has been brilliant throughout our subsequent sale/purchase and has always been happy to answer any questions we had. We moved into our new home at the beginning of December and we couldn't be happier. We would not hesitate to recommend her to friends and family.
