Rachael works closely with individuals and family business owners, dealing with the administration of complex estates, tax and succession planning for wealth preservation and asset protection, Wills, Powers of Attorney and Court of Protection work. Her particular specialism lies in succession planning for business owners and farmers, in helping them navigate the complex reliefs from Inheritance Tax which can be so valuable to their families. Rachael is based in the Newton Abbot office and works closely with the team there. She is also strongly connected to the wider team in the firm’s other offices and assists across the firm in any matters which affect later life and succession planning. Rachael applies her understanding and experience, with strong relationship skills, to work closely with clients to ensure that their instructions are captured correctly and that the whole process for them is as smooth as possible. Rachael relishes the variety offered by her role, from the chance to interact with people and consider practical results for them in light of their situations, to researching the fine details of the law, drafting complex legal documents and negotiating with officers at the Revenue about an estate claiming complex Inheritance Tax reliefs. Qualifying in 2015, Rachael is a full member of the Society of Trusts and Estate Practitioners ‘STEP’, having passed the Diploma exams with Distinction. She is also the current Chair of the Non-Contentious Business Sub-Committee of the Devon and Somerset Law Society, which deals with matters of interest to the profession in the non-contentious area. Rachael has also been recognised in the 2023 Legal 500 directory as a key lawyer in the Teir 4 ranked Personal Tax, Trusts and Probate team.
